A wonderful day

Yesterday was a wonderful day! It was just one of those days that make you so thankful!

In the morning, Jenette and I took Chloe to her preschool for a Halloween party. She's so excited for Halloween this year -- she has a "Princess" costume that Jenette bought for her. She's so proud of this costume that when she first got it a few weeks ago, she wanted to wear it everyday. Now, finally, she can "officially" wear it. We stayed for about an hour and watched our daughter parade around through the other classrooms, all the kids showing each other their costumes. While we were there, we talked to a mother of one of the students. She had adopted two girls from China. She discussed with us her experience in doing so, and Jenette and I had a lot of questions for her.

Later in the day, I took Chloe to play outside. Jenette got her a bike with training wheels and some child-sized roller skates. I watched her as she and her friend, Kayla, rode around on their bikes. Then I helped Chloe get her knee and elbow pads on and held her hand as she tried to get used to rollerskates. She did very well. It was very memorable and cute. I should have had a camera with me.

This is the really interesting thing that happened today -- Jenette went shopping at Big Lots, so I took Chloe next door to the Pawn Shop. I've recently got into browsing pawn shops now and then for cheap used tools or computer parts. Oddly, some of the TVs there were showing the LDS-produced film "Believing Christ" (or "Believing In Christ", I don't remember). I think it must have been showing on a DirecTV channel or something. Anyway, it was at the part where the deciples are gathering all the extra bread and fishes, and then Chloe sees it and blurts out: "Look Daddy! It's God!" I was absolutely floored. I asked her how she knew that, and before she could answer, the actor playing Christ was shown and she said, "No wait, that's God! You see, Daddy? It's God!" I said, "Yep, that's right. Wow, you're a smart girl!" We stood there, watching the LDS movie on the TVs for a while. There was no audio -- I tried to turn up the volume on the TVs, but got nothing. At one point, when it showed the actor playing Christ teaching the beattitudes on the mount, Chloe reached up to the screen above her and put hands all over it, saying, "God! It's God." I was just stunned. In fact, I don't recall teaching her about "God" -- I always say either "Heavenly Father" or "Jesus." I don't remember saying "God." And, although I have the DVD of "Believing Christ," I've never shown it to her. And I'm almost 100% sure that she's never seen it at church, either. It was one of those fantastic moments that they describe in the scriptures simply as "out of the mouths of babes."

Later that night I gave her a bath and read her stories. I read to her nearly every night and she loves it. We read "Home On The Range", a book-version of the recent Disney animated movie, "Arthur's Loose Tooth" and "Arthur's honey bear" -- two books based on a family of monkeys, similar to the Berenstein Bears. We also read some Calvin & Hobbes comics. Chloe loves Calving & Hobbes. If she's a good girl, I usually will read some C&H for her. If she's been disobedient or sassy to Jenette or I, then she loses out on C&H priviledges. If she's been very disobedient and obstinate that day (which, thank goodness, is not too often), then she goes to bed without any stories at all. It's a very effective deterrent -- she really loves her story time with me. The day after she loses those priviledges, we remind her and warn her to be good all day, or she'll lose out on story time again.

It was just a very good day altogether.
